« What is home? »

A pilgrimage across oceans and through the gallery of my home and heart.

Un pèlerinage à travers les océans et à la galerie de mon cœur et de ma maison.

  La structure de ce mémoire reflète l'architecture et l'ADN de la maison. Depuis le paillasson de bienvenue, la porte s’ouvre sur la simple question « qu’est-ce que la maison » ? Les lecteurs seront invités à entrer et prendre place à table, à l’image d’un festin de banquet. Cette souvenance de participation, communauté et partage est en essence la soutenance de ce mémoire. Le chef-d'œuvre ultime est la vie elle-même où l'art et la vie se rencontrent au seuil de l'hospitalité. La maison devient la galerie et la galerie se transforme en un espace de refuge. Ce mémoire est écrit avec une approche multidisciplinaire qui combine les cadres académiques, poétiques, narratifs, documentaristes, philosophiques et théoriques. Cette recherche rejoint le domaine personnel dans un contexte local, global et anthropologique sur HOME. Ceci n'est pas un mémoire sur la théorie de l'art mais plutôt le développement de pensées basées sur l'expérience, les actions et la beauté de la vie quotidienne et ordinaire. La conclusion est un récit personnel saturé de poésie de l'espoir (Hope) : à la fois personnel et empreint de sentiments.

english The structure of this thesis reflects the architecture and the DNA of the home. Beginning at the welcome mat, the door opens to the simple question "what is home"? Readers are invited to enter and take a seat at the table, in the image of a banquet feast. This remembrance of participation, community and sharing is the essence of this thesis. The ultimate masterpiece is life itself, where art and life meet at the threshold of hospitality. The house becomes the gallery and the gallery is transformed into a space of refuge. This memoir is written with a multidisciplinary approach that combines academic, poetic, narrative, documentary, philosophical and theoretical frameworks. The research connects on a personal level in a local, global and anthropological context of HOME. This is not a dissertation on art theory but rather the development of thoughts based on experience, actions and the beauty of everyday ordinary life. The conclusion is a personal narrative saturated with the poetry of hope (Hope): both personal and the feeling.

CONCLUSION

Les uns les autres, les gens

Je résume ce mémoire académique dans lequel j'ai ouvert mon âme et humblement tenté, en tant qu'étudiante et artiste émergente, de quitter le cocon et la communauté de la scolarité pour entrer dans un monde qui a vraiment besoin d'espoir. Ceci n'est pas un mémoire des arts plastiques. Ce mémoire est consacrée au plus beau chef-d'œuvre jamais créé : Les êtres humains. 

Un individu remplit l'espace de sa maison avec sa présence, ses affaires et sa personnalité : il crée un habitat. La maison est en nous, autour de nous et créée à travers nous. Ce que le monde considère comme ordinaire est facile à ignorer, je le considère comme extraordinaire. Ce mémoire est une définition de « HOME »  défini par la présence des autres et le pouvoir de la rencontre. L'art est simplement une fenêtre dans la maison de la vie : il laisse entrer la lumière, l'air frais et la perspective au-delà du lieu.  

Mon art ne concerne pas la lumière, l'espace ou la maison.

Mon art concerne les êtres humains, le peuple.

Il s'agit de la vie et de la découverte d' un être pleinement vivant.

Il s'agit de réunir les gens, de les rassembler et de partager. 

C'est une question de rencontre et de relations. Il s'agit de rêves et d'une réalité brisée. Il s'agit d’une soif de justice, de vérité et d'appartenance. 

Votre histoire, Mon histoire, Nos histoires, ne faisant qu’une histoire. 

Ce n'est pas un résumé ou une fin, mais simplement le début. Les pages vierges qui nous attendent maintenant sont celles de la poésie, de l'histoire et des solutions. Ce n'est pas un mémoire d’art plastiques. Il s'agit d'une histoire de personnes qui sont remplies d'espoir tout en cherchant le chez-soi.

People. 

I summarize this academic document in which I’ve cited my soul and humbly attempted as a student and emerging artist leaving the cocoon and community of scholarship and stepping into a world desperately in need of hope. This is not a thesis of fine art. 

This is a thesis about the finest masterpiece ever created. 

People. 

A person fills up the space of home with their presence, belongings and personhood: making a habitat. Home is within us, around us and created through us. What the world deems ordinary and easily passes by, I see as extraordinary. This is a working definition of home, defined by the presence of others and the power of meeting. Art serves merely as a window in the house of life: letting in light, fresh air and perspective beyond place.  

My art is not about light, space or home.

My art is about people. 

It’s about life and the discovery of being fully alive. It’s about people being together, gathering and sharing. It's about gathering and relationships. 

It’s about dreams and broken reality. It’s about justice, truth and belonging. 

Your story, My story, Our stories, becoming one.
